  • Growing Trade Ties Between China and Brazil and Spark Robust Pro-China Lobby in Brazil
Brazil has become the first developing country to establish a strategic partnership with China, marking a significant milestone as the first major Latin American nation to elevate its bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership. The ties between the two countries have always been a priority in China's diplomacy, with strong support from China for Brazil's accelerated economic and social development, as well as its increased role in international and regional affairs. The foundation of Brazil's relationship with China is predominantly economic, with China standing as one of Brazil's largest trading partners, and reciprocally, Brazil being one of China's key trading partners in Latin America. The trade relationship is highly complementary, given China's status as the world's largest manufacturer and exporter, coupled with Brazil's position as one of the leading exporters of agricultural products globally. This complementarity creates a solid basis for trade cooperation, as China's demand for agricultural products aligns well with Brazil's abundant agricultural resources. Moreover, China's advanced technology and production capacity in the manufacturing sector contribute to providing Brazil with cutting-edge equipment and technical support. Approximately one-third of all Brazilian exports, including major commodities like soybeans and beef, are purchased by China. This agricultural trade relationship has made China increasingly reliant on Brazilian commodities, but it has also created a powerful pro-China lobby in Brazil. The success of trade cooperation between China and Brazil is further enhanced by the collaborative efforts of both governments. Active policy measures in trade and investment have been undertaken by both nations, creating a conducive development environment and opportunities for enterprises. A notable example is the signing of a free trade agreement, aimed at reducing trade barriers and fostering the continued growth of trade cooperation. As China and Brazil celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, China is committed to leveraging this milestone to forge another "golden 50 years" of bilateral ties with Brazil.
